Bangladesh wins 3 medals at International Biology Olympiad At the 36th International Biology Olympiad (IBO), held in the Philippines, the Bangladesh team earned three bronze medals. The bronze medalists are Ariz Anas from South Point School and College, Farabid Bin Faisal from Mastermind English Medium School and Ha-Mim Rahman from Notre Dame College. Alongside these three students, Marjan Afroze from Rajuk Uttara Model College was also a member of the team. The team was led by Professor Rakha Hari Sarker, president of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Biology Olympiad and Professor Mrityunjay Kundu, a member of the presidium. The 36th edition of the International Biology Olympiad was held in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, from July 20 to Sunday. Although the event was scheduled to conclude on Sunday, the results were announced a day earlier. Prior to the international competition, ten regional festivals were held across the country from May 16 to 24 to form the national team. Approximately 8,500 students participated in these regional events. Winners of the regional rounds advanced to the national festival, which was held on May 31 and attended by 1,190 students. The top performers were then invited to the National Residential BioCamp, from which the best four candidates were selected for the International Biology Olympiad. The final selection round took place on June 19 at Daffodil International University. The Bangladesh Biology Olympiad Committee organized the national-level program under the banner of the Bangladesh Biology Olympiad (BDBO). The National Institute of Biotechnology and Daffodil International University provided training support, while Lab Bangla offered technical assistance. Six International Olympiad winners meet CA   DHAKA, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS)- Six students won medal in the International Mathematics and Biology Olympiads paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House in the city this afternoon. Of them Ariz Anas of South Point School and College, Ha-Mim Rahman of Notre Dame College and Farabid Bin Faisal of Mastermind English Medium School own bronze medals at the 36th International Biology Olympiad 2025. Jitendra Barua of Chittagong Baklia Government College, Jawad Hameem Chowdhury of Ideal School and College and Tahsin Khan of Mymensingh Zilla School own bronze medals at the 66th International Mathematics Olympiad 2025. Education Adviser Professor Dr CR Abrar, Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder, Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad Committee President and BRAC University Distinguished Professor Mohammad Kaikobad, Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad Committee General Secretary AA Munir Hasan, and Bangladesh Biology Olympiad Committee President and Dhaka University (DU) supernumerary Professor Dr Rakha Hari Sarker and General Secretary and BUET Professor Dr Muhammad Tarik Arafat were present. During the meeting, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus listened to the students to know about the experience in the completion and wanted to know about the problems they faced. I am very happy to hear from you. You have come to this stage in your own interest. We are also inspired by your enthusiasm and interest,  he said. Students under 20 years are qualified to contest in the international Olympiads. During the meeting, Education Adviser Professor Dr CR Abrar informed that a Bangladeshi student won gold medal in a Mathematics Olympiad competing with students from 111 countries. It is a matter of pride for us. Many have won bronze in international competitions in mathematics, biology and other subjects,  he said. Students, who participate in these Olympiads, are connected to a large network, which motivated them to pursue education in top universities across the world with scholarships, the education adviser said, adding,  If we can nurture and encourage them more, they will do much better. Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder said students from various remote areas come to Dhaka to take part in the competitions and prepare themselves for international competitions. There are many children who are talented, but their financial situation is not good, he said, adding,  Many times many selected students cannot come to Dhaka due to financial constraints . University students work as volunteers in these Olympiads. They examine the answer sheets, prepare question papers, and act as organizers,  Professor Bidhan said. As the Chief Adviser wanted to know about the Olympiad committee s experiences and action plan, Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad Committee President Professor Mohammad Kaikobad said this year about 70,000 students from all over the country participated in the first round. Noting that they personally raise funds for all the related expenses including registration fees, accommodation and transportation, he said,  Even if a private bank supports us financially, it is not enough . Sharing their experience, Bangladesh Biology Olympiad Committee President Professor Dr Rakha Hari Sarker said they had started with 10,000 students from primary, secondary and higher secondary levels in the first phase. Finally four were selected for the International Biology Olympiad following step by step examinations, he said, adding that this year, 80 countries participated in the Olympiad while students from Bangladesh country have won bronze medals. Listening to the experiences from the Olympiad committees, the Chief Adviser acclaimed them for taking such initiatives on their own interest. It is a very positive thing that you have voluntarily taken such initiatives. Bangladesh to send 12 young students to malaysia olympiad by The Business Standard.

Bangladesh to send 12 young students to Malaysia Olympiad   A 12-member team of Bangladeshi primary school students will participate in the 22nd International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO), to be held in Kedah, Malaysia, from October 5 to 9. Nearly 400 participants from 23 countries are expected, with the Bangladesh team set to depart for Kedah on 4 October. The announcement was made at a press conference on Tuesday at the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in Dhaka, organised by the Society for the Popularisation of Science, Bangladesh (SPSB) and the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN). SPSB and BdOSN President Munir Hasan introduced both the six-member mathematics team and the six-member science team. The mathematics team comprises students from St Joseph Higher Secondary School, SFX Greenherald International School, Mastermind English Medium School, and Bonowari Lal Government High School, Sirajganj. The science team comprises students from Lighthouse International School, SFX Greenherald International School, Manarat Dhaka International School and College, St Joseph International School, St Joseph Higher Secondary School, and Mymensingh International School. Notably, Nabi Hossain and Ayan Isa previously won champions’ trophies in mathematics and science at the national round. The team will be led by SPSB Vice President, Zahidul Amin, with Md Tanvirul Islam serving as deputy leader. Mim Naz Rahman will serve as the science mentor, and Jyoti Singh as the mathematics mentor. This marks Bangladesh’s debut at the primary level in an event of such international prestige, following the Bangladesh Mathematics and Science Olympiad (BDMSO) held on 22 August at St Joseph Higher Secondary School, where over 200 students competed. From 52 winners, 12 were selected through training camps.
